Rain or Shine Riviera Club 40' Custom Kitchen

Rain or Shine Riviera Club

Steel Frame Modular Kitchen

THE CHALLENGE

The Filling Station Hospitality Group approached ROXBOX in search of a modular kitchen solution for their new restaurant concept, Rain or Shine Riviera Club, located at The Portal Container Village—a newly developed shipping container park in the heart of Bellingham’s downtown waterfront. While undeniably scenic, the site posed unique challenges—frequent exposure to heavy rain and strong winds, as well as the need to meet stringent seismic standards due to its location in a high-risk earthquake zone.

THE SOLUTION

ROXBOX designed, built, and delivered a custom 40′ steel-frame modular kitchen tailored to the needs of the Rain or Shine Riviera Club. While the Filling Station team initially considered a modified shipping container, a custom steel-frame module was chosen to accommodate the larger footprint required for their commercial kitchen. Measuring 40′ x 10′ x 10′, the unit provides ample space for a high-performance commercial hood system, essential cooking equipment, and a spacious, ergonomic workspace for staff.

To enhance the guest experience, three serving windows ensure smooth service flow throughout the day, while a custom clamshell patio on one end creates an inviting open-air concept with a walk-up bar. Eye-catching custom vinyl artwork applied to a corrugated metal facade seamlessly integrates the kitchen into the vibrant aesthetic of The Portal.

Built to withstand the Pacific Northwest’s challenging weather conditions, the structure meets all required seismic standards and health codes. Additionally, with the evolving landscape of the Port of Bellingham, the kitchen was designed with mobility in mind, allowing for relocation if needed in the future.
